(From Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home)Calvin Divine, age 74, of Carterville, Mo., passed away at 9:44 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, following a brief illness.
Calvin was born November 30, 1946, in Joplin, and lived in Carterville most of his life. Graduating from Joplin High School in 1964, Calvin then went into the military.
Receiving the Bronze Star with Valor as a Navy Vietnam Veteran, he bravely served his country as a rescue swimmer specializing in underwater demolition. He was the owner of Four State Scale Company in Webb City, where he retired. He attended and was very active at Faith Life Worship Center in Carthage.
Calvin was married to Kathy Divine on December 1, 1969, in Miami, Ok. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2010.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Cecil G. Divine and Anna Mae Hardy Divine of Joplin, his brothers Cecil E. Divine, Jimmie G. Divine, Johnny N. Divine, his brother- in law Richard Curtis of Joplin, and father and mothers in law George L. Lassiter, Mildred Lassiter, and Ruby Lassiter, granddaughter Eden Powell, and two nieces Roxanna Stribling and Marta Christy Divine.
Calvin was a long-time member of the Carterville City Council until early 2020. He met weekly with the Carterville Comets lunch group, and met daily with his friends at the Donut Hole in Webb City. He was an active member of the Carterville Cemetery Board where he was currently designing and constructing a war memorial there.
Calvin is survived by his children: Melissa Divine Powell and husband, Floyd, Houston, TX, Craig Divine, Webb City, Lindsey Divine, Carterville, and Kallie Ipock and husband, Daniel, Carterville. A special part of our family: Gary Webster, Arizona. Two sisters: Kathy and husband Art, Edmond, OK, Sue Curtis, Joplin; in-laws: Tekie Divine, Joplin, George and Charlotte Lassiter, Texas, Nancy and Jerry Lewis, Carterville; nephews and nieces: Stacey Hensley, Diane Curtis, Piper Divine, Jeremy Divine, Christopher Lassiter, Nathan Byrd, Erin Goddard, Amy Simmons, Matthew Lewis and his beloved 10 grandchildren: Caleb, Jada, Justice, Keaton, Kelsea, Jackson, Taylor, Kenlee, Jenna and Jacee.
Service will be at 10am Wednesday, December 30th at Faith Life Worship Center, 736 E. Fairview, Carthage, MO. The viewing will begin at 9am where the family will receive friends. Masks are optional.
