(From Ozark Funeral Home)Raymond Samuel Hines, 71, of Rocky Comfort, Missouri, passed away on Monday morning, December 28, 2020, in Joplin, Missouri after suffering a short illness.
Raymond entered this life on March 20, 1949, in Newton County, Missouri. He was one of seven children, born to the late Oren and Adella (Mcfarland) Hines.
Other than the time he spent in the Armed Forces, he resided in McDonald County, Missouri his entire life.
In December, 1978, he met the love of his life, Linda (Horton) Hines. They were united in marriage on June 16 1985. Together they shared a daughter, Teresa (Lance) Dumond, of Rocky Comfort, Missouri; two grandchildren, Amberly Dumond and Coty Dumond, also of Rocky Comfort, Missouri.
Raymond was inducted in the armed forces on March 15, 1969. His basic training was located in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was then transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington, to continue his training. On August, 2, 1969, he was sent to Vietnam, where he remained until the date of this injury, February 15, 1970, where he stepped on a land mine. He received the purple heart award along with many other medals. He left the military with the rank of E5 Sergeant.
Raymond was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Once he came back from Vietnam, he liked to work on race cars, run a bull dozer and backhoe around his farm. What he loved the most, was spending time with his grandchildren. He never let losing his legs in Vietnam slow him down. His motto was “Life is what you make of it.”
Raymond is survived by his wife, daughter and grandchildren. He also leaves behind two brothers, Leroy (Jeannie) Hines, Anderson, Missouri, and Ben (Waltroud) Hines, Rocky Comfort, Missouri; Two sisters, Helen Stephens, Rocky Comfort, Missouri and Jane Mahurin, Dardanelle, Arkansas.
Raymond will now be joining his parents; two sisters, Sharlet Berry and Virginia Spurgin, and a special cousin and best friend, Ray Mustain, in their permanent home and in the presence of our Father in Christ.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Union Cemetery near Longview with Bro. Billy Joe Gentry officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 2-4:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. Memorials are being directed to Union Cemetery Care Fund c/o the funeral home.
