(From Parker Mortuary)Earl V. Cox Sr., 85, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin.
Earl was born on October 14, 1935 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO to Dan and Stella Cox of Webb City, MO. He attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in Joplin, MO in 1953. He joined the military where he served in the US Navy from 1955-1959.
After serving in the military, he landed a job with Fairchild Camera & Instrument Company. He then began working for Southwestern Bell (AT&T) as a cable splicer and installation & repair technician in Joplin and surrounding areas, where he retired after 40 years.
He served as a trustee and treasurer as well as assistant superintendent of the Sunday school department at Unity Missionary Baptist Church where he also taught the men’s Sunday school class. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. He was a wonderful person and a great fisherman.
Earl is survived by his son, Earl V. Cox, Jr., Joplin; three grandchildren; sister, Ida Creger, North Carolina; nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Maize Smith and Remona Gilmore; and his brothers, Dan Cox, Jr., Clifton Cox, Sr., Haliburton Cox, Sr., Richard Cox, and Charles Cox, Sr.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Tuesday morning, December 29, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Parkway Cemetery in Joplin with Rev. Charles Melson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
