(From Parker Mortuary)James Bernard “JB” Nelson, 66, of Joplin, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Freeman Hospital.
JB was born September 26, 1954, in Webb City, Missouri, to the union of the late James Leroy Nelson and Reta Earlene (Plympton) Nelson.
He graduated from Parkwood High School in 1972 and was a lifetime member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. JB, “The Legend”, was a machinist by trade and employed by KMT Waterjet Systems, Inc., for the last 20 plus years. He loved his job and being able to share his knowledge with others.
JB loved to hunt and shoot but his greatest passion was woodworking. He took great pride in his work and loved to create things both large and small. Several of those items he would gift to his family and friends. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
JB was united in marriage to Mona Irene Skaggs in Vilonia, Arkansas. She survives at the home.
JB is also survived by his son, James Franklin Nelson; daughter, Teresa Diane Brewer and husband, Trey; son, Edward Holseth; step-children, Shanna Wilson and husband, James, Zachary Reed; grandchildren Alyssa, Hope and fiancé, Zach, Taylor, Tyler, Brooke, Olyvia, Chancelor, Justin, Kory; great grandchildren, Tymber, Bexlee and one on the way Remi Rae; siblings, Jameine Nelson and husband, Gary, Joseph Nelson and husband, John; nephew, James Henson; niece, Valerie Henson; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Joplin with Tim Oster officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
Service arrangements are under the care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
