(From Parker Mortuary)Carolyn LaVon Skinner, 83, passed away on July 26. She went to be with her husband of 50 years, Leonard.
Carolyn was born on September 19, 1941 to Millard and Velma Hanes, in Emporia, KS. She was the 5th of 7 children born of this union. She is preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings.
She worked for many years in the restaurant industry. She became a certified welder and worked at Hesston Corp. and Excel in Hesston, KS. She then became an over-the-road truck driver joining her husband working at Tri-State Motor Transit in Joplin, MO for 12 years. They then worked for Crete Carrier Corporation out of Lincoln, NE for about 13 years. She retired in 2006 to take care of her disabled husband.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, one grandson and one great-great grandson. She is survived by one son, Garry Skinner of Galva, Ks. Two daughters, Nancy Tomasino of Wellington, Ks and Cynthia Skinner of Webb City, MO; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 1, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel in Joplin, Mo. With burial on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Florence, Ks.
Arrangements are under the direct care of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Mo.
