(From Ulmer Funeral Home)Peggy Sue Sandlin was born on September 19, 1958, in Norfolk, Virginia to Ray Sjorlund and Faye (Williams) Sjorlund. She passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025, in Carthage, Missouri. Peggy and John were married on March 4, 1988, in Joplin, Missouri. They lived in Carthage throughout their marriage.
Peggy had two children, son, Nathan Scott Haws and wife, Tierra, and daughter, Kristin Nicole Sandlin. She worked for Carthage Head Start Center and after that worked for Quest Diagnostics Lab in Joplin. Peggy was a member of BYKOTA Church in Carthage. She loved to dote on her grandchildren, and they LOVED their “Mimi."
Peggy enjoyed talking to people, bowling, playing marbles, and she even went all in when playing “Left, Right, Center”! Peggy courageously fought ovarian cancer for almost six years. She was a fighter and fought it hard to the end.
Peggy is survived by her husband, John; her two children, Nathan and Kristin; her parents, Ray and Faye Sjorlund of Joplin; her five grandchildren, Zayden Clark, Saniah Haws, Kayson Haws, Brylin Silvers, and Braxton Silvers, all of Carthage; three brothers, Brad Sjorlund of Girard, Kansas, Jason Stuart Sjorlund and wife, Paula, of Garnett, Kansas, and Raymond Jason Sjorlund, and wife, Tina, of Joplin; and several nieces and nephews.
Peggy’s funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at BYKOTA Church in Carthage, Missouri. A visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at BYKOTA Church. Internment will follow her service at Emmanuel Cemetery, southeast of Carthage, on Cedar Road.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
