Marilyn “Mary” Kay (Berry) Cook, 73, of Springfield passed away in her home on June 25, 2025. She was born on November 12, 1951; the daughter of Robert Clyde and Carolyn Elnora (German) Berry.Her family moved to Long Beach, California, when she was two and returned to Springfield when she was 10. She then attended Weaver Elementary School, Reed Junior High School, and was a member of the Hillcrest High School class of 1969.
Marilyn married Charles Albert “Charlie” Cook on February 15, 1969. Charlie was stationed in Bamberg, Germany, in the military, where Marilyn joined him and where their son, Rob, was born the following year. They later made their home in Lawton, Oklahoma, and Joplin, Missouri, where Marilyn attended Missouri Southern State University for a while.
After returning to Springfield, Marilyn worked full-time for Fireworks Supermarket for more than 40 years, retiring around 2022.
Marilyn loved life and enjoyed being with people and animals of all kinds. She was a kind and gentle spirit who saw the good in people. She will be missed but remembered by many.
She is survived by her son, Rob (and his wife, Jennifer); her sister, Deanna (Roy) Frakes; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends, including her dear friend, Phyllis Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Patrick Kenton Berry (and his wife, Jennifer Tippery Berry).
