(From Buchanan Funeral Home)Raymond A. Spree, 94, of Mt. Vernon, MO, passed away on Sunday evening, July 20, 2025, at Oak Pointe Monett following a decline in health.
Ray was born on September 24, 1930, in Freistatt, MO, son of the late Emil and Louise (Bracht) Spree. Ray was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on several boards for the church and school and was a volunteer for Braille. As a young man, he served in the National Guard. He loved music and enjoyed singing in Men’s Glee, Mixed Choir, Barbershop Quartets and several Handel Messiah Christmas concerts. His family has many treasured memories as Ray enjoyed visiting with them.
On November 16, 1958, in Freistatt, MO, Ray married Allene Fellwock at Trinity Lutheran Church. They enjoyed sixty-six years of making memories together.
Ray is survived by his wife Allene of the home; one son, David Spree and wife Jean of Mt. Vernon, MO; one daughter, Tammie Kassel of Mt. Vernon, MO; five grandchildren, Joshua Spree, Elizabeth Barrett and husband Travis, Megan Souders and husband Justin, Seth Kassel and Hope Kassel; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Dieckhoff of Diamond, MO; three sisters-in-law, Linda Spree of Republic, MO, Verna Korff of Sarcoxie, MO and Lois Gaddy (Jim) of Mt. Vernon, MO; a special friend, Sam Birkenbach and a host of extended family and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Reverend Floyd Spree and Elmer Spree; and two sisters, Florence Voskamp and Alice Kleiboeker.
Funeral service for Mr. Spree will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, MO with Reverend Jake Sletten officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Freistatt. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Lutheran World Relief. Arrangements are under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
