Don Hill

(From Knell Mortuary)

Donald Eugene “Don” Hill, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home in Carthage, Missouri, at the age of 73. Born on July 5, 1952, the son of the late Willard and Betty (Brown) Hill.

Don graduated from Carthage High School in the class of 1970, where he was known for his friendly demeanor and team spirit. Early in his career, he worked at local favorites Tastee-Freez and Kennell Motors, where he honed his skills and work ethic.

He married Susan Kathleen “Kathy” Hensley on November 3, 1972. The same year Don began a long and fulfilling career with Leggett & Platt, from which he retired in 2017 after 47 years of dedicated service. One of his proudest moments was becoming a dad on May 15, 1974. When presented with his daughter he said, “Just what I wanted!”.

A devout Christian, Don was a cherished member of the Fairview Christian Church in Carthage. Don's love for his community was evident through his involvement with the Carthage Men's Golf Association, where he not only played but also formed lasting friendships.

Don's interests were diverse and always centered around the joy of companionship and family. He was an avid softball player, a golf enthusiast, a passionate NASCAR racing fan, and even tried his hand at go cart racing after his retirement. His unwavering support for the Carthage Tigers was well-known, and he rarely missed a game, whether in person or online. Above all, Don cherished the time spent with his family, especially his beloved granddaughters, Anne and Elizabeth, who brought immense joy and laughter into his life.

Don's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Kathy Hill; his daughter, Piper Lanyon and her husband Stephen; his granddaughters, Anne and Elizabeth Lanyon; his brother, Robert Hill and his wife Selba; his sister, Barbara Smith; as well as his brothers and sisters-in-law, Alyce and Tom Wilson, and Mike and Janet Hensley, along with 13 nieces and nephews and their spouses and numerous grandnieces and nephews. He also enjoyed spending time with his cousins and their spouses, who he considered life long friends as well as family. He was predeceased by his twin brother, David Hill.

Don's life was a beautiful reflection of the values he held dear: family, faith, and community. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness.
