John Harpole

(From Greenlawn Funeral Home)

John Harpole was born on December 24,1947, in Webb City, MO. Son of Ralph and Emily Harpole, John was raised in Alba, MO, and proudly graduated from Alba High School.

After high school, John went on to earn a BS in accounting at Missouri Southern University, leading him to work in several accounting firms before striking out on his own as a Certified Public Accountant. He worked hard, putting in lots of long hours, and eventually building a reality out of his dream of helping others.

On August 9, 1969, John married Jane Heidlage in Sarcoxie Prairie, MO, and they settled in Joplin. A few years later, daughter Jamy joined the family and they soon moved to Springfield where they continued to live and work.

John enjoyed a second career out of developing affordable houses and apartments across Missouri and Kansas, wanting to give people a hand up, not a handout. Part of funding these properties came from his establishment of partnerships and selling tax credits to large corporations.

When he wasn't working, John enjoyed a good drive, whether behind the wheel or off the tee. More than anything, he enjoyed the company of others, shooting the breeze and spinning a good yarn. Always interested in new places, people and things, John liked to share his travels with others whether to relax in the tropics or camp in the Ozarks. He was always happy to offer his encouragement and support towards those who needed it.

John passed away in the early morning hours of July 24th after a long struggle with infections contracted and other complications from being hit by a car in March. He went peacefully and was surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife, Jane Harpole; his daughter, Jamy Watson, and her husband, Aden Watson; grandsons, Owen and Benjamin; sisters Betty Wilson and Elizabeth "Libby" Sharp; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole, in Springfield. The Celebration of Life will at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 1, 2025, at the funeral home.

Care has been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home East, in Springfield, Missouri.
