Robert E. Powell, age 80 of Joplin, Missouri passed away Wednesday November 1, 2017 at Mercy Hospital following a short illness,
He was born September 16, 1937 in Darwin, Oklahoma to Robert E. and Eunice Marie (Sullivan) Powell.
Robert served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. He was a supervisor at ICI Explosives and retired in 2002. Robert was a member of the Joplin, Missouri American Legion and also a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church Webb City, Missouri.
He married Linda Wyrick and she preceded him in death on April15, 1995, also preceding him in death were his parents.
Robert is survived by one son, David Powell and wife Leslie, Sanger, Texas; four daughters, Robyn Smith, Webb City, Missouri, Jackie Ritchie and husband Doug, Carl Junction, Missouri, Heidy Hathcock and husband Dan, Carterville, Missouri, Karen Graves, Joplin, Missouri; three brothers, John Powell and wife Carole, Joplin, Missouri, Spencer Powell, Webb City, Missouri, David Powell, Webb City, Missouri; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday November 6, 2017 at Emmanuel Baptist Church Webb City, Missouri with Pastor Kyle Beverlin officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday November 5, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home.
