Greg Lowe

Gregory Lee Lowe, 55, of Golden City passed away Sunday January 7 at the Mercy Hospital in Springfield. 

Greg was born May 2, 1962 to Andy Lee and Mary Green Lowe in Lamar, MO. After high school he joined the Missouri National Guard as a combat medic. Through the years he had many different roles in the guard. In 1985 he was a petroleum fuel handler; in 1997 he became a Platoon Sgt. Of the 935th Aviation Support Battalion; and in 2001 he was assigned to Airport Security for the Joplin/Springfield Airports. He was charged with the safety of the passengers and the discipline and order of the security and worked side by side with the airport police and local law enforcement. 

He was assigned to Operation Noble Escort in 2002. Greg was was sent to Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and then deployed to Kuwait later that year, where he served as Fuel Section Non Commissioned Officer in Charge(NCOIC). After returning from Kuwait he was in Lamar as Debt One Sgt, Company A, for the 322th Brigade Support Battalion from 2007 to 2009. He was back in Louisiana after hurricane Gustav. 

From 2009 to 2015 Greg was First Sgt. Headquarter Supply Company ASB, in Springfield, MO. Greg joined the Golden City Fire Department in 1992 and has been a severe storm tracker for 27 years. He worked for the City of Golden City as Public Works Director since 1999. And served on the committee for Golden Harvest Days. He was also the Emergency Management director in Golden City since 1998. He was a member and post commander of the Hickman-Owen American Legion Post #473. Greg was truly a local and national hero protecting and serving his hometown and his country.

Greg is survived by his wife of 35 years , Yolanda Lee Yost Lowe, and their two sons Ethan Wade Lee Lowe and Lucas Harold Lee Lowe, all of Golden City. Greg is also survived by his mother Mary Potter, a brother David Lowe, a sister Angela Gibson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Andy Lowe and his brother Bobby Lowe.
