Kathleen Hall, age 81, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018, of non-Hodgkin lymphoma at her home in Joplin, Mo.
Kathleen was born in Independence, Kan., and lived most of her life in Bartlesville, Okla., and Joplin. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg in 1958 and obtained her Masters from Oklahoma State University in 1969, in elementary school counseling. She had a varied career of teaching English, helping to implement the Bartlesville MUTUAL Girls Club, counseling in grade schools, starting a cleaning service to employ low-income women, running a motorcycle salvage business, leading a nursing home study club, being a caseworker at Ozark Center, educating for Parents as Teachers, and teaching at Adult Basic Education and Literacy.
Her hobbies included writing at least two letters daily, cooking for those she loved, attending local concerts and plays, reading, teaching an adult special needs class, seeing her great-grandchildren, and checking on her many friends. She was genuinely interested in each person in her life, and made so many feel special.
Kathleen is survived by four daughters, Karen McGlamery (Silas Gray), Pat Skavlen, Connie McGlamery and Kathie McGlamery (Richard Painter); eight grandchildren, Sandie Carroll, Kelly Scovel, Eli Kennedy, Kasi Griffberg, Chris Anderson, Tina Low, Shawn Giddens, and Lynda Beth Keeling; many great- grandchildren, nephews, great-nephews and nieces; and many special friends.
Kathleen donated her body to the St. Louis University School of Medicine.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, at noon at the Joplin Elks Lodge 501, 1802 West 26th St., Joplin.
