(From Parker Mortuary)Olive Geraldine “Gerri” Hunter, entered Heaven September 16, 2020, after a long illness. Gerri was born March 10, 1936, to Ottie and Viola (Brown) Bradshaw in Lowell, Kansas.
She grew up in Lowell and Galena graduating from Galena High School. She moved to Tucson, Arizona to live with her older brother and attended beauty school. She returned to Joplin and worked as a beautician.
She married James A “Bud” Hunter, III, in 1962, they later divorced. The union produced two children, Kathy and Kent. Gerri was a co owner/operator of Hunter Printing Company and Tri State Transmission.
Gerri loved being a mother and homemaker. Gerri, frequently hosted family holidays and her meals were legendary. She was an avid gardener and reader. She had a strong Christian faith that sustained her whole life. As a child she attended Assembly of God Church in Galena. As an adult she attended Immanuel Lutheran Church and raised her children in the church. In later years she attended Forest Park Baptist Church and Saginaw Baptist Church.
Gerri was close to her children, grandchildren, and siblings and enjoyed spending time with them. Gerri was very proud of and devoted to her grandchildren. She had a special bond with each of them. Gerri was especially close to her niece Vickie Hudson and spent many happy days shopping and visiting with her. She had good friends with whom she enjoyed going to dinner, movies and playing dominoes. Gerri moved to Lee’s Summit in 2015 to be near her daughter and her family.
Gerri was preceded in death by her parents; son Kent; brothers, Ralph, Darrell, Wayne, and Leon; and four sister in laws; and a nephew Ronnie.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Cherney, son-in-law James; grandchildren, Nick and Victoria; sister, Dorothy Spencer; brother Glen; niece, Vickie Hudson; eight nieces and five nephews.
Per her wishes, graveside services will be held on Monday, September 21 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Mo. The family will receive visitors at Parker Mortuary on Monday from 12:30-1:30.
