Truman Lewis

Truman Harold Lewis, age 91 of Joplin, passed away at The Communities of Wildwood Ranch at 1:20 AM on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Truman was born in the “Mineral Heights Edition” of Picher, OK on April 21, 1929 to the union of Charles R. Lewis and Pearl Jetta (Owens) Lewis. His time in high school was cut short because of his service in the US Army. He served his country in a number of places, including Korea, Vietnam, Japan, the Philippines, and Hawaii before retiring in 1969 when he was discharged in Washington State. 

Upon retiring, he lived in Lexington, KY for many years before returning to the four-states in 1993 where he lived in Galena, KS, and then Joplin, MO for the past 15 years. He was a minister and a church planter, most recently planting the Apostolic Lighthouse Church.








He was united in marriage with Mayme (Shumate) Lewis on November 17, 1965 in the State of Oregon. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2017.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Pearl Lewis, three sisters, and three brothers.

Survivors include one brother, Kenneth Lewis of Quapaw, OK; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Hillcrest Cemetery of Galena. His brother Kenneth Lewis will officiate. Visitation will take place from 6-7:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena. In observance of the current COVID-19 recommendations, face-coverings and other precautions are recommended.
