Millie Carlisle

Millie Dodson-Carlisle After 99 years, 3 months and 20 days of life on this earth, our gift from God left this earthly realm after fulfilling her duty of blessing everyone’s life that she touched while here. Millie was born at her home on August 23 in the year of our Lord 1921 to the Union of Albert Lee Hopkins and Effie Doles near Bethpage in McDonald County, MO. She was the youngest of their 5 children. 

She had 2 sisters: Mary Sanders and Edith Beaver (whoo lived to be 100 years 6 months and 8 days of age) and 2 brothers: Frank and Albert Jr. (both of whom died in infancy). She also had 3 older, half siblings: Lee Hopkins, Nellie Forbes and Anne Wade. 

Her Parents and Siblings all preceded her in death. Millie was also preceded in death by all of her Nephews and Nieces, save for 1 Niece, Mary Faye Maness, currently of Lee’s Summit, MO.








Millie married Bert Josiah Daugherty and they were blessed with their only child, Wanda Fern (Daugherty) Lewis. From her Daughter’s marriage to her Son-by-Love, Earl Lewis, came more blessings of 3 Grandchildren: Paul and Tressa Lewis, Debbie and Tobey Simpson, Lisa and Les Sapp; 12 Great-Grandchildren: Paul’s Children; Josiah Lewis, Hannah and TJ Born, Ethan Lewis, Corey and Karissa Friend, Kyle Friend, Ashlee Friend, Debbie’s Children; Tobey Jr and Brandi Simpson, Elijah Simpson, Tabitha Simpson, Lisa’s Children; Timothy Gill, Julia Gill, Wyatt Gill; 25 Great-Great Grandchildren: Josiah’s Children; Talyn, Tate, Kaedyn. Hannah’s Children; Trent, Cooper, Chloe, Gage, Brynnley. Ethan’s Children; Keegan, Dakotah. Corey’s Children; Trey, Makayla, River. Kyle’s Child; Karson. Ashlee’s Children; Memphis Belle, Easton. Tobey Jr’s Children; Madison, Tobey III. Elijah’s Children; Trenton, Jasmine, Emily, Jade, Mia. Julia’s Children; Gabby and Luke.

Millie then enjoyed 43 years of marriage to Glenn Dodson the “Great Love of her life." 

After his death she married a long time, community friend, Frank Carlisle, who also preceded her in death. From these marriages she was rewarded with inheriting an additional 7 Children: Kenneth Dodson, Betty Hedgecorth, Don Johnston, Jesse Johnston, Janice Lashmet, Ronnie Johnston and Susan Dorris; 21 Grandchildren, 29 Great-Grandchildren, 35 Great-Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great-Great Grandchildren.

Millie always strove to take care of her loved ones from always making sure that they had been fed (a homemade from scratch meal) to putting the clothes on their backs, which she had lovingly made herself. She devoted over a decade of her own life to the caretaking of 2 of her Husbands and a family friend at the end of their lives. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers. She loved music; playing the piano and singing, both at church & at home. She hummed, sang and rocked for a multitude of hours to three generations of her Grandbabies.

Millie was a member of the Joplin Church of God (Seventh Day). Millie was the oldest citizen & probably had the longest residency in her community of Neck City.

Millie’s visitation will be Wednesday the 16th from 6:00-7:00 pm. Her funeral service will be Thursday the 17th at 2:00 pm. Both will be held at the Joplin Church of God (Seventh Day), 2225 North St. Charles Ave, Joplin MO. Graveside services will follow at Weaver Cemetery, 12699 County Road 227 near Oronogo, MO.

Millie’s funeral will be broadcast live and will also be available for viewing at any time afterwards at YouTube channel: church7net.Pallbearers will be Great Grandsons: Josiah Lewis, Kyle Friend, Tobey Simpson Jr, Elijah Simpson, Timothy Gill and Wyatt Gill. Honorary Pallbearers are also Great Grandsons: TJ Born, Ethan Lewis, Corey Friend and Kreig Miller.
