Virgil A. McCoy, 89, of Joplin passed away at 4:11 AM on June 18, 2024, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 29, 1935, in Joplin. He was a loan officer for First
Tennessee Bank (Crown Financial) and for many years he was in sales for various companies before
retiring in 1995.
He was a member of Park Plaza Christian Church in Joplin. He belonged to various organizations including Lion’s Club (President for many years), Joplin Association of the Blind, Jaycees, The Elks Club and served as a Deacon at South Joplin Christian Church.
He married Elizabeth Powell (Hunter) on October 20, 1976, she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Allen McCoy, Scott McCoy (wife Judy McCoy) of Joplin and Vance Powell (wife Diana Alley) of Franklin, Tennessee. Five Grandchildren; David McCoy, Jennifer Livezey, Tia Alley, Brandon McCoy, and Matthew McCoy.
Also surviving are three sons, Allen McCoy, Scott McCoy (wife Judy McCoy) of Joplin and Vance Powell (wife Diana Alley) of Franklin, Tennessee. Five Grandchildren; David McCoy, Jennifer Livezey, Tia Alley, Brandon McCoy, and Matthew McCoy.
He was preceded in death by his only brother, Don McCoy.
Per his wishes there will be a direct cremation and no services are planned at this time. A celebration of
life is being planned for a later date.
