(From Lakin Funeral Home)Judith "Judy" Ann Hammond, age 78, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024, at her home in Mount Vernon, MO. She was born in Jasper County on Saturday, December 6, 1945; daughter of Larry H. and Thelma (Rountree) Sorg. She was a 1963 graduate of Joplin High School.
She married the late James R. Hammond. Mrs. Hammond worked at Ben Franklin in Mount Vernon for many years, where she made many friends. She loved spending time with friends, crocheting, sewing, baking, gardening, and working with her flowers. She was always taking care of things including dogs and cats. Mrs. Hammond looked forward to seeing if she would win after scratching off Lottery tickets. She will be missed by many!
Surviving are the following: one son, Jimmie Hammond; Jimmie's girlfriend and her daughter, Berthina Wellington and Aubrey Vogel; and many friends.
Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Hammond; parents, Larry and Thelma Sorg and a brother, Harry Sorg, Jr.
The family will receive friends at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. A Celebration of Life will follow at 7:30 PM with Danny Cordova officiating.
