(From Maupin Funeral Home)Dr. Richard Courtney White O.D., F.A.A.O., 98, of Fulton, Missouri joined the Lord Jesus on July, 15, 2025. He was born on September 15, 1926 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, son of the late Harold Russell and Cora (Courtney) White. He married Evelyn Jean Sturdy on November 7, 1943. She preceded him in death on May 9, 2009.
Dr. White graduated from Carthage High School, Carthage, Mo. class of 1944. Following high school, he served in the United States Navy 1944-1946 during WWII aboard the Battleship USS Pennsylvania in the Pacific Theater.
Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he entered the Southern College of Optometry, Memphis, TN., where he received his Doctor of Optometry Degree on September 15, 1950. He purchased the Optometric practice of Dr. William Wright and moved the family to Fulton in January, 1954. Dr. White was in the private practice of Optometry, in Fulton, until his retirement January 2, 1992. Dr. White served as a part-time staff doctor and consultant in the eye clinic at the Fulton State Hospital for a total of 30 years.
Dr. White was a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a life member. He was a life member of the American Optometric Association and the Missouri Optometric Association. He served ten years on the Board of Directors of the Missouri Optometric Association and was President 1963-1964. He received the Man of the Year Award from the Missouri Optometric Association in 1976. He was an ordained Deacon and Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Fulton. He served on the Session and was Clerk of the Session for many years. He served his GOD and his church as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of various church committees and conducted devotionals at the Presbyterian Manor. He was one of the founders of Ecumenical Ministries and SERVE, Inc. Dr. White was the first chairperson of the Boards of EM and SERVE.

After the death of his wife in 2009 from Alzheimer disease, he was the facilitator for a Dementia/Alzheimer caregiver support for several years in Fulton. He was a past President of the Fulton Rotary Club. He worked with Boy Scout Troop 53 for 18 years. He joined the American Legion in 1945 and was a member until his death. Besides EM and SERVE, his civic duties included serving on the Fulton Board of Education, City of Fulton Long Range Planning Committee and as a Commissioner to the Fulton Housing Authority. Dr. White enjoyed playing golf and was an avid amateur Radio operator making friends all over the world. He was a charter member of the Callaway Amateur Radio League in Fulton.
Survivors include his sons, Stephen R. White of Fulton, Alan S. White (Cathy) of Cape Girardeau, Mark C. White (Nancy) of Lee’s Summit; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11:30 am with Pastor Carol Pierson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until the time of service at the church. Interment will be held in Callaway Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
