Carolyn Sue Hughes of Joplin, Missouri, entered into rest on April 29, 2017 in Joplin, at the age of 78. Carolyn was born on October 4, 1938 in a rock house at Route 2, Granby, MO, the daughter of Carus and Rachel (Long) Babb. She moved to Joplin in 1956. She had worked as an inventory clerk, bid estimator, material technician, senior buyer and configuration specialist for LaBarge / Ducommun for the last 38 years.
Carolyn and Max Hughes were married on Dec. 25, 1958 at the Lone Star Church of Christ and he preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 2012. She is survived by her eldest daughter, Terri Sue Garten and husband, Doyle of Joplin, their daughters, Rachel Stone and spouse, Tim and their daughter, Ali Nicole of Slater, MO; Katy Harrall and husband, Kevin of Tacoma, WA; her youngest daughter, Betsy Jo Johnston of Joplin and her children, Sara Johnston and husband, John Conrace of Columbia, MO and Spenser Johnston of Joplin; Michael Johnston, father of Sara and Spenser, she was Liz’s MUM; four brothers, Nolan Babb of Quapaw, OK; Larry Babb of Joplin; Charles Babb of Galesburg, KS; James Babb of Joplin; three sisters, Irene Brown of Joplin; Rebecca Stephens of Carl Junction and Nancy Boothe of Springfield.
Services for Carolyn will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10 am at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Private interment will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Friday, May 5, 2017 from 6 to 7 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Carolyn may be made to the Joplin Elks Lodge, 501 Christmas Basket Fund, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850. Carolyn’s family would like to express a special thanks to Roger and Donna Dobias and Rachele Gray for being such fantastic neighbors and helping Carolyn with numerous chores these past few years.
