David F. Harris, 77, Carthage, MO, passed away Sunday morning, May 14, 2017 at his home. David Frank Harris was born March 25, 1940 in Lamar, MO to the late Lee Harris and Ruth (Wilson) Harris. He attended Green Grove Elementary School, was a graduate of Carthage High School, Class of 1957, and attended the University of Missouri for 1 year in pre-veterinary. David was a lifetime dairyman and was a truck driver for 25 years. He married Mary “Trudy” Lopez on January 9, 2001 in Carthage, MO; shesurvives. David was a lifetime member of the Missouri Dairy Association, past president of the Carthage Saddle Club, and was named American Farmer, the highest degree in FFA. He was a milk bottle collector and helped with Hispanic Missions. David was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage.
Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Sherrie Lambeth (husband Keith), Pryor, OK; two sons, Michael Harris (wife Kathy), Carthage, MO, and Steven Harris (wife Deborah), Joplin, MO; two step-daughters, Patricia Hayes (husband Robert), Joplin, MO, and Roberta White, Joplin, MO; one step-son, Donald Elkins, Joplin, MO; two brothers, Dale Harris (wife Deborah), Bakersfield, CA, and Darrell Harris (wife Lori), Carthage, MO; 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jacqueline Harris.
Visitation will be held 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Knell Mortuary. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Carthage. Rev. Ron Franklin will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Round Prairie Cemetery, NE of Lamar, MO.
