Mary W. Johnson, age 63, Joplin, passed away at 5:06 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital.
Mary was born June 26, 1953 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to the late Everett Ray Hancock and Mary Frances Turner Hancock and had lived in Joplin most of her life.
She was a graduate of Memorial High School in 1972, where she was active in girls softball and powder puff football. She owned and operated Mary's Daycare for several years and volunteered with the Girl Scouts of America. Mary enjoyed bowling, horseback riding and spending time with her family. She was a member of the ABWA.
She married Larry D. Johnson in 1983 in Joplin. He survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a son, David Baker, Joplin; grandchildren and great grandchildren, D'Andre, Abby, Kiykiy, Onnika, Salome, Deorica, Max, Mia, Mya, Avania, Gage, Broken; two brothers, Timmy Hancock, Springdale, Arkansas, Jeffrey Hancock and wife, Doris, Glenpool, Oklahoma; and best friends, Chiquita Smith, Kansas City and Mary Israel, Joplin.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, Jammia; a son, Cohn; two brothers, David Hancock and James Hancock; and stepfather, Joe Ray Turner.
A memorial gathering is planned for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Ewert Park.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
