William Hastings

(From Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home)

William David Hastings, age 66, of South Greenfield, Missouri, passed away at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2019, at the Sarcoxie Nursing Home. He was born April 9, 1952, in Miller, Missouri, the son of William Howard and Alice Delores (Barker) Hastings.

William was born at home on the farm he was raised on west of Miller, Missouri. If his mother could not find him she knew to go look at the creek. His passion for fishing and camping developed at a young age. William spent many an hour fishing at Dilday Mill and Stockton Lake. He especially enjoyed night fishing.

William was one of six children that worked and played hard on the farm. He was often picking rocks with his brothers and sisters or playing baseball in the bottom field until dark. He was blessed with a very large family that gathered frequently for a Sunday meal or to make ice cream. Eddie Faucett (cousin) and William developed a special bond that was there during the good and hard times of their lives. They even made a trip to St. Louis, Missouri, for tryouts for the St. Louis Cardinals.

William was a friend to many in the Miller/South Greenfield community. Friends that called or went to see him at the Sarcoxie Nursing Center as cancer took away his ability to care for himself at home. Gary Adams and Jim Kelly were some of those faithful friends that made the trip to see him on a regular basis at the nursing center.

William was a 1970 graduate of Miller High School and was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. He was stationed in Germany during that era and work with a communication team. He was a Pipe Fitter and a member of the Miller Christian Church.

William is survived by his two sisters, Delores Vandergrift of Alba, Missouri and Alethea Goodman of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; two brothers, Kenny Hastings and his wife, Pattie, of Mt. Vernon and Kelly Hastings and Dave Cowan, of Carthage, Missouri and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

William was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice, brother, Gary Hastings and brother-in-law, Charley Vandergrift.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at the Goss Cemetery southwest of Miller. Arrangements are under the direction of the Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home in Miller, Missouri. Online condolences may be shared at www.Fossett-MosherFuneralHome.com.
