Betty Cooper

Mrs. Betty Katherine Cooper, 80, of Southwest City, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, April 3, 2017, at Grand Lake Villa, after months of declining health.

Betty entered this life on April 28, 1936, in Anderson, Missouri, one of ten children born to the late Leland Leslie and Josie (Wallain) Harp. She was raised in Anderson, Missouri and was a 1954, graduate of Anderson High School. On July 6, 1956, she was united in marriage to George Barton Cooper and together they have shared the last sixty years. In 1962, they built a home and moved to Southwest City. A few years later in 1964, Betty began employment with Cornerstone Bank and Cornerstone Insurance. She retired in 1998, as an insurance agent with thirty-four years of service with the company. She enjoyed traveling, visiting with her friends and spending time with her numerous nieces and nephews. Betty accepted Christ and her personal Lord and Savior and was a member of the Southwest City First Baptist Church.

Her parents and two siblings, Glen Harp and Retha Cooper, preceded her in death.

Betty is survived by her husband, Barton Cooper; two brothers, Bob Harp of St. Charles, Missouri and Jack Harp of Anderson; five sisters, Alice Holly of Southwest City, Doralee Gilion of Anderson, Earline Harp of Neosho, Bertha Buckley of Dinwiddie, Virginia and Ruby Newell of Goodman; several nieces and nephews; great and great-great nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cooper are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Missouri, with Bro. Rob Grimm officiating. Burial will follow in the Southwest City Cemetery. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Jeff Cooper, Jerry Don Cooper, Mike Buckley, Rick Holly, Roger Newell and Brent Cooper. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Southwest City Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. Memorials are being directed to either the First Baptist Church or the Southwest City Cemetery Care Fund c/o the funeral home.
