Ethel Caldemeyer

Ethel Vera (Basz) Caldemeyer, 1958 E. Smith, Springfield, Missouri, passed away April 17 at the age of 97.

She was born in East Chicago, Indiana on September 20, 1919 to the late Michael and Vera G. (Demo) Basz. She was a graduate of Hammond Technical High School, Hammond, Indiana. Ethel married Robert O. Caldemeyer in 1940 in Springfield, Missouri. She lived in Joplin from 1955 through 1999 when she moved to Springfield. She worked as an aircraft wiring assembler for Pacific Mercury and Fairchild, Inc. from 1956-1966. In 1967 she started working as a secretary at Missouri Southern State College until she retired in 1981.

Ethel liked to travel, read, play the piano and have fun with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Caldemeyer in 1984 and her loving companion of over 23 years-Earl Downing in 2013. She is survived by two daughters, Janet Palmer, Patagonia, Arizona and Linda Ramsey Gibson and her husband Clyde Gibson, Springfield, Missouri.

Other survivors include four grandchildren, Linda Palmer of Aurora, Colorado, Max Gries (husband Tyler Van Vierzen) Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gabriel Ramsey (wife Melanie Westfield) San Francisco, California and Dana Thomas (husband Justin) and great grandsons Eli and Brighton Thomas, Springfield, Missouri. She had numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by family and many friends.

Services are planned for Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Jeff D. Martin will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the mortuary.
