Richard Melaven

Richard Melaven, age 83, passed away April 25, 2017 at NHC Healthcare in Joplin, Missouri, following a decline in health.

He was born August 26, 1933 in Elwood, Indiana to Gregory and Isabell (Gartley) Melaven.

Richard served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. During his service he was a firearms instructor and a member of the First Rifle Team. After his service in the Navy he worked for American Hospital Supply, which lead him to becoming a supply designer for hospitals.

He is survived by daughters Debbie Melaven Brown, Mims, Florida, Linda Hounschell and husband John, Melbourne, Florida; sons Paul Melaven and wife Pam, Webb City, Missouri, Jim Melaven and wife Cheryl, Holt, Florida; granddaughters Erin Ortiz and husband Jon, Paige and Delaney Melaven; his soulmate Peggy Keatts, Neosho, Missouri.

Memorial graveside services with full military honors will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Webb City Cemetery.
