Peggy Brouillette

Florence “Peggy” Brouillette, age 94, of Joplin, passed away on Monday April 17, 2017 at her home, following an illness.

Peggy was born September 15, 1922 in a sod house near Lamar, Colorado, a daughter of John O. and Lydia (McCormick) Runyan. She graduated from Russell High School in Russell, Kansas. Peggy married Carl Edward Brouillette on May 15, 1943 in Hutchison, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2001.

Peggy and Carl made their home near Stark City, Kansas from 1948 until 1955 and later moved to Wichita, Kansas, where Peggy worked as a secretary at SW Grease Oil Company, Rich Sign Company, and Cessna Aircraft. Peggy and Carl owned and operated a motel in Picayne, Mississippi before retiring to Farlington in 1983. In 2003, Peggy moved to Joplin, Missouri to be near her sister. Peggy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Farlington, the George C. Brown Post No. 26, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Steven Bennefeld Post No. 7479, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Girard, Kansas.

Peggy enjoyed her grandchildren, fishing, and an occasional trip to the casinos.
Survivors are a son, John Brouillette, and his wife, Carla, of Wichita, Ks.; a daughter-in-law, Karen Brouillette, of Wichita, Ks.; six grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and her sister, Bertha Cathern Welch, of Joplin. Peggy was preceded in death by a son, Rob, in 2015; a sister, Irene Runyan, and her brothers, Frank Runyan, Richard Runyan, and John Runyan.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Farlington Cemetery, Farlington, Kansas. Reverend Rex Wakefield will officiate. Friends may call during regular visiting hours.
