John Larry Altizer, age 81, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at his home.He was born October 2, 1939 in Pleasant View, Illinois the son of Edward and Grace (McGuire) Altizer.
On January 1, 1967 he was united in marriage to Linda Lentz, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Todd Altizer of Kansas City, Mo, Paula Andonian and her husband Bruce of Olathe, KS and Dianne Pearson and her husband Dave of Prairie Village, KS; one brother, Edward Altizer and his wife Rachel of Redding, California; seven grandchildren, Devin Altizer, Kira Altizer, Alex Frihart and her husband Phil, Jesse Andonian, Mason Andonian, Sydney Pearson and Barret Pearson and one great grandchild, Jamie Frihart.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, David Altizer.
John grew up in Neosho, MO and graduated from Neosho High School. From June 4, 1963 until June 3, 1965, he served in the United States Navy in Vietnam.
After John’s military service he attended Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas on the GI Bill and gained a walk-on football scholarship.
For thirty-five years John was employed at Union Carbide, traveling throughout the United States then retiring in 1995. After retirement John traveled around the world as a safety consultant. In 2000 he and Linda moved to Shell Knob, Missouri to make their home. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Shell Knob.
Some of his favorite pastimes were telling jokes, playing golf, watching football, being on the lake and spending time with his family.
Services will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob.
