Teresa Kloer

Teresa Marie Kloer (Schmidt) 59, of Columbus KS died on February 14th, 2021 at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS following an unexpected illness. She was born October 14th, 1961 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of Paul and Agnes (Zortz) Schmidt of Columbus, KS. 

She graduated from Columbus Unified High School in 1980. After high school, she attended nursing school at Labette County Community College in Parsons, KS where she earned her degree in nursing and graduated with honors.

She was united in marriage with Kevin Patrick Kloer on March 13th, 1982 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS.








Teresa began her nursing career in 1983 at Maude Norton Hospital (now Mercy Hospital) in Columbus, KS and enjoyed helping those in need. She loved the people she worked with as well as being able to care for the people of her hometown. She spent most of her time caring for patients in the emergency room as well as inpatients in the hospital, but also worked in home health, obstetrics, surgery, and the gastrointestinal lab in the hospital. Teresa retired from nursing after 35 years of dedicated service due to health reasons. She was a passionate woman who treasured time with her family and was often seen at various events for her children and grandchildren with a camera in hand to record those fond memories. She was a friend to everyone she met and a faithful woman. Her grandchildren lovingly referred to her as “Grams” and “Gi-Gi”.

Teresa was a devoted catholic and attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Columbus. She also served on Mercy Columbus Nursing Shared Governance from 2013-2018, Trauma Registry from 2018-2019, and Ambulance Board from 2008 until her retirement.

Survivors include husband Kevin Kloer (Columbus KS), two sons; Shaun Kloer and wife, Lindsay (Webb City, MO), Derek Kloer and wife, April (Sherman, TX), one daughter; Julie Irwin and husband, Danny (Pittsburg, KS). Six grandchildren; Olivia Kloer age 10, Brooklyn Kloer age 8, Drew Kloer age 8, Grace Kloer age 4, Piper Kloer age 4, and Brylie Irwin age 2, one sister; Mary Kay (Schmidt) Wagner and husband Lowell (Offerle, KS) and one brother; John Schmidt and wife Anne (Seattle, WA) and several nieces and nephews.

The parish rosary will be recited at 4:00pm on Sunday February 21st at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 115 W Walnut St., Columbus, KS. The family will receive friends and family from 4:00pm to 6:00pm after the rosary service at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00am on Monday February 22nd at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Columbus, KS with Father Jeremy Huser as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Scammon, KS.

Expression of sympathy may be made in form of memorials to the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Columbus.

The Kloer family extends their appreciation for those who cared and prayed for Teresa. She was known for her sweet, thoughtful spirit to all she encountered.
