Sharron Lemley

Sharron Lee Lemley, age 77, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Evelyn’s Hospice House in St. Louis, Mo surrounded by her daughters after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Sharron was born June 8th,1943 in Detroit, MI, daughter of the late Stirling A. Schimmel and Iona I. Wolfe Schimmel. She grew up in Detroit Michigan, prior to moving to Joplin when 15 years old (1959) where she graduated from Joplin Senior High School in 1961. 

Sharron married her high school sweetheart, Fred W. Lemley, in 1966.

Sharron worked at Rx Optical and Joplin Optical for many years. Sharron excelled and was a natural in Sales, she worked at Wicks & Sticks selling candles and sold wedding gowns at Special Occasions, then RIGIS for 13 years before retiring at age 66. 

Sharron was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Joplin. She taught 1st grade Sunday school for many years and later served as a Deacon. Sharron was active in several committees including 1st Tues Luncheon and the Church cookbook. She belonged to Circle One, The Kirtus Club and volunteered at Crosslines. 

Sharron and husband Fred were avid dancers including jitterbug, square dancing, Texas 2-step and line dancing. Activities Sharron enjoyed included bowling on a league, playing bunco, Tai-chi and walking. Sharron and her late husband, Fred, loved to travel and explore. On their 50th wedding anniversary Fred took Sharron to Paris, a trip she would never forget. Sharron was a ray of sunshine, a beautiful soul, always an optimist, and happy! Her radiant smile and enthusiasm for life will be greatly missed by all.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred W. Lemley, brother Terry Schimmel; survivors include her daughters Debra Lee Lowry of Boise, Idaho, Sherry Lyn Davis and husband Jonathon of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Amber Mohr, Skyler Lowry and Cooper Lowry all of Boise; Alex Davis and Landon Davis both of St. Louis; brother, Robert Schimmel and wife Karen Schimmel of Golden Valley, Minn; niece Sara Watters.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Joplin on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, March 2nd from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin. Open viewing will be available during normal viewing hours on Monday and Tuesday at Parker Mortuary. 

 Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Joplin, Evelyn’s House, or to The Cancer Support Center and may be entrusted to the mortuary.
