(From Clark Funeral Home)James Leroy Smith, 53, of Windsor, Colorado, passed away on April 28, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family, including his wife Cindy Smith, his sons Brendan and Bryston, and their loved ones. James's passing marked a moment of selfless generosity as he chose organ donation, giving the gift of life to others.
Born on August 14, 1970, to Kenneth Smith and Rita Devins Rainey in Carthage, Missouri, James grew up with a spirit of dedication and service.
After graduating from Neosho High School in 1988, he married Cindy and went on to serve his country in the US Army, achieving the rank of sergeant as a military police officer. Following his military service, James embarked on a successful career in banking, culminating in his role as president and CEO of FMS Bank in Greeley, Colorado.
In 1987, James met Cindy at the Mall 5 theater in Joplin, Missouri, and their love story unfolded into 35 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised their sons Brendan in Windsor, Colorado, and Bryston in Clarksville, Tennessee.
James was actively involved in his community and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, the Weld County Food Bank, and Habitat for Humanity. He also served as a city council member in Bentonville, Arkansas.
He enjoyed traveling the world with Cindy, engaging in intramural sports, and passionately supporting his favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved attending MLB games, including spring training. His love for coffee led him to pursue advanced barista classes, reflecting his pursuit of excellence in all aspects of life.
He was a dedicated commissioner of his fantasy baseball league for over 10 years and a fiercely competitive board game enthusiast, he would joke and say it was just a practice game if he lost. James approached life with zest and humor. He cherished his mother's homemade cinnamon rolls and created lasting memories with his extended family, including siblings, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
James is survived by his devoted wife Cindy, his sons Brendan (Kassidy) of Windsor, Colorado, and Bryston (Jessica) of Clarksville, Tennessee; parents Kenneth and Mary Smith of Greenfield, Missouri, and David and Rita Rainey of Joplin, Missouri; Father-in-Law Wayne and Mary Rowe of Neosho; siblings Jason (Olivia) Smith of Denham Springs, Louisiana, Angie (Zahir) Calhoun of Springfield, Missouri, and Roxanne Asher of Blackwell, Oklahoma; nephews Jonathan (Kelsea) Paul of Neosho, Missouri, Riley, Jaxson, and Parker Smith of Denham Springs, Louisiana, and niece Jaetea (Matt) Paulk of Joplin, Missouri, along with his beloved great-nieces and nephews, Lochlan, Barrett, Autumn Paul, Liam, Ollie, and Adian Paulk.
