Mary Mitchell

(From McQueen Funeral Home)

Mary Katherine Mitchell, of Fairview, Missouri passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on April 27, 2024, at the McDonald County Living Center in Anderson, Missouri. Born on April 17, 1930, in Barry County, Missouri, Mary's life was a testament to her enduring love, kindness, and dedication for her family and community.

After completing her education in Cassville, Missouri, Mary embarked on a lifelong journey of companionship and entrepreneurship when she married the love of her life, Tommie "Tom" Mitchell, on December 15, 1947, in Cassville. Together, they co-owned and operated the Mitchell Sawmill in Fairview, Missouri, where Mary's hard work and dedication were evident in the success of their business.

Throughout her life, Mary's hands were rarely still, as she found joy in sewing, quilting, gardening, cooking, and most of all, taking care of all the kids. Her home was a haven of warmth and love.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom Mitchell, who passed away on November 20, 2020. Her legacy was also shaped by those who left before her: Her parents, Chris and Rhoda (Russell) Taylor; one daughter, Susie Wallace; one son-in-law, Jim Wallace; three brothers and four sisters, who all held special places in her heart.

She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and lessons for her surviving family members. Her three sons, Gene Mitchell and his wife Irvalene of Neosho, Missouri; Danny Mitchell and his wife Pat of Fairview, Missouri and Johnny Mitchell and his wife Chris of Neosho, Missouri; two daughters, Linda Shiveley and her husband Roger of Springfield, Missouri and Sheila McNabb and her husband John of Wheaton, Missouri. Mary's legacy continues through her fourteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-granddaughter, all of whom were the light of her life.

Mary Katherine Mitchell's life was a beautiful patchwork quilt of moments, memories, and beloved faces. Each thread represented the connections she made, the lives she touched, and the love she shared. As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to guide and comfort us, just as the quilts she crafted with such care have warmed us through the years.
