Joyce McGill

(From Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home)

In the early morning of April 29, 2024, Alice "Joyce" McGill passed away at HCA Medical Research Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, after a sudden illness.

Joyce, aged 87, was born on August 7, 1936, in Picher, Oklahoma, but spent most of her life in Chetopa, Kansas.

Throughout her life, Joyce held various roles, including serving as a cook at the local school and as the city librarian until her retirement.

Yet, the role closest to her heart was that of a homemaker, where she found immense pride and joy in raising her four boys, who remained her greatest source of happiness until her final days.

Her interests included music, reading, puzzle books, and cherished moments spent with her family.

Joyce is survived by her four sons: Kenny McGill of Collinsville, Oklahoma; Lloyd McGill of Joplin, Missouri; Terry McGill and his wife, Penny, of Cassville, Missouri; and Barry McGill and his wife, Julie, of Granby, Missouri. Additionally, Joyce is survived by nine grandchildren, 10 (soon to be 11) great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, George McGill; her father, Walter Naylor Darnell; her mother, Golda (Newton) Darnell; and her brothers: George, Leon, and Dale Darnell.

The graveside service will be at 2:45 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2024, at Greenlawn Cemetery in rural Columbus. Services are under the care of the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Chetopa.
