Joseph Moreland

(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)

Joseph E. Moreland, age 44, of Neosho, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

Joseph, son of the late George and Ada (Lemon) Moreland, was born on November 02, 1979, in Joplin.

Joseph's life was a testament to the joy and light he brought into the world. He grew up and graduated from Joplin High School with the Class of 2000.

After high school, he dedicated himself to working at the Joplin Area Workshop and later, he continued his vocational journey at the Preferred Day Program. Joseph previously attended First United Methodist Church in Joplin and was a current member of Christ's Community Church of Joplin where he was active in church clubs and day camps, where he formed lasting bonds with fellow members. For several years, Joseph was an active participant in the Missouri Special Olympics. His athletic spirit soared as he competed in track, basketball, and bowling, inspiring others with his determination and sportsmanship.

Joseph's love for his family was boundless, particularly for his nieces and nephews. He found joy in playing Wii and diving into the fantastical worlds of Super Mario with them. His laughter was infectious, and his ability to tell jokes made every family gathering a memorable one. Disney movies were among his favorite pastimes, as was the simple pleasure of folding laundry – tasks he approached with his characteristic cheerfulness.

His kindness, love, and joy touched the lives of many, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Survivors include his siblings, Jim Moreland, and his wife, Kelly, of Joplin, Doug Moreland, and his wife, Julie, of Chicago, Sharyn Enlow, and her husband, Tim, of Neosho, Christine Bruhnke, and her husband, Robert, of Katy, TX, and Andrew Moreland, and his wife, Rebecca, of Edmond, OK; 14 nieces and nephews; one great nephew; and many loved extended family members and friends.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 10:30 at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin with Pastor Bob Dart officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Friday, April 26th beginning at 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ’s Community Church Summer Day Camp Program and may be entrusted to the mortuary.
