Nancy Greenway

(From Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home)

Nancy Lemay Greenway was born on April 4, 1936, and went to be with the Lord on April 28, 2024 at the age of 88.

Nancy was the fourth of six children born to Rev. Virgil and Velma (McCubbin) Greenway in Michigan. When she was a child, her family moved to Missouri and soon bought a farm near Wentworth, where they raised chickens. Nancy attended school in Pierce City, graduating in 1954.

After high school, she attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield and graduated from there in 1958. She then went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in education from Southwest Missouri State University (now known as Missouri State University).

Nancy began her teaching career in Thayer, Missouri. She then moved to Waynesville, Missouri where she taught reading at Partridge Elementary in Fort Leonard Wood for many years until her retirement in 2002. She was a member of the Missouri State Teachers association and greatly enjoyed working with children.

Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting and playing games like Mexican Train dominos. She would often be heard saying, “Oh, I goofed”, “Well, forever more”, or “good grief” which resulted in lots of laughter. She also enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel music and attended several concerts in the area.

In 2018, Nancy moved to Joplin, Missouri to live with her sister Glenda. She regularly attended Hope Baptist Church.

Nancy will be greatly missed, but we rejoice that she is in Heaven with the Lord and her family that has passed on. As it says in the Bible in 2Corinthians 5:8, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”

Nancy is survived by her sisters Dorothy Miller of Orlando, Florida and Glenda Thompson and husband Clifton of Joplin, Missouri. She is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Patricia Coffey, Charles Greenway and Donald Greenway and her nieces, Bonnie Miller and Angelique Coffey.

The family would like to thank all who helped care for Nancy.
