(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Marjorie Lucille Scheurich, age 92, left this world at 1:42 AM on April 18, 2024, and took her first steps in Heaven.
“Marge” was born on April 29, 1931 to Glen and Elva Rockhold, and lived in Joplin, Missouri, all her life. She was a devout Christian, serving as a Sunday School teacher at Connor Avenue Baptist Church, and then later attending as a faithful member at Forest Park Baptist Church.
She enjoyed music, and was a singer in the Keenagers Choir for senior adults for several years.
She also enjoyed activities such as bowling and road trips, and was a collector of dolls, spoons, and more recently, any items with butterflies on them.
In 1948, Marge married her childhood sweetheart, Melvin “Dude” Scheurich, who was her constant companion for 57 years, before his passing. She was also preceded in death by one young son, Melvin Douglas Scheurich (“Dougie”), who passed away at age 7, as well as her parents, and a sister, Norma Lee Hammer.
During her Heavenly reunion with Dude, she will, no doubt, be telling him all about how she and her sister, Norma, rode out the F-5 tornado that destroyed the home they had built together on South Ozark Street in Joplin back in 1964, and how she had insisted that her new house be re-built in the exact same spot.
She was a homemaker, but also worked for a time as a secretary in the medical offices of Dr. Herb Schmidt and Dr. Howard Roberts.
She will be remembered by family and friends as a lady with a pleasant, peaceful disposition.
She is survived by one daughter, Sally Ann Smith (husband Ron), one son, Preston Scott Scheurich (wife Dawn), four loving granddaughters, including Jennifer Hancock (husband Brian), Lindsay Fanning (husband Miles), Caitlyn Overfelt (husband Joe), and Chelsea Scheurich. She was also blessed with six wonderful great-grandchildren, including Marissa, Caisen, Landon, Tate, Parker, and Ty.
Marge will be laid to rest at Osborne Cemetery in Joplin. Plans for a Celebration of Life gathering are pending.

ReplyDeleteBlessings to your family. Grateful for your love for the Lord but even more for His great love for us.
ReplyDeleteAunt Marge was a very special woman. She had great love for her family, friends and God. I am her neice, and she would have me come and spend a week or two with her daughter Sally, as our family had moved from Joplin to Columbia, MO. She knew how hard that had been on me and made me feel like I was back home to be with all the family. I will cherish all those times, and her wisdom she passed on when I didn't realize she was. So glad she is walking with those that have gone before her.
