Kay Shields

Kay (Alloway) Shields, 81, of Parsons, passed away at 8:45 a.m., Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the Presbyterian Manor in Parsons.

She was born on February 6, 1943, in Mound Valley, Kansas to Raymond and Colene (Hope) Alloway. She grew up at Mound Valley and Parsons and attended Parsons and Labette County schools, graduating from Labette County Community High School in 1960.

Kay worked at Broderick’s, Alloway’s Carpet, and the Parsons Credit Union. She retired from the Credit Union in 2000 as manager. 






She enjoyed genealogy, traveling, reading, sewing, quilting, playing cards, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons.

She and Wayne Shields were united in marriage on November 13, 1961, at Parsons. He preceded her in death on February 3, 2022.

She is survived by her son, Dan Shields, and his wife, Wendy of Parsons; her daughter, Misty Burke, and her husband, Ryan, and her son, Ryan of Parsons; her grandchildren, Jarred Westhoff, Ian Shields, Cheryl Gough, Ethan Burke, Kaleigh Wilkins, and Makenna Burke; her great-grandchildren, Jamie and Cadence; her brothers, Larry Alloway, and his wife, Mary of Carl Junction, MO and Gail Alloway of Parsons; her sister, Kathy Triebel, and her husband, Sam of Coffeyville; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband, Kay was preceded in death by her son, Allen Shields, her sister, Julia Ann Alloway, and her sister-in-law, Juanita Alloway.








Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Pat McReynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Harmony Grove Cemetery near Dennis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday evening.
