Royan Meyer

Royan Jean (Dix) Meyer, age 81, of Cherokee County, KS passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO with her son by her bedside.

Born July 1, 1944 in Neosho, MO, Royan was the youngest daughter of Roy and Ruth (Zaring) Dix. She spent her childhood in Mexico, MO, and Jefferson City, MO. Having enough credits after junior year, she went to Joplin Junior College at age 17. There she met David P. Meyer, and they married at age 21. Royan continued her education at University of Missouri, Columbia. 






Due to his career, they lived in Louisiana, West Virginia, Nebraska, and Washington state, then coming back to Cherokee County to farm. They were later divorced after 19 years of marriage. Royan worked as a Medical Technologist at St. John Hospital, Freeman Hospital, and then 35 years at Mt. Carmel/Via Christi in Pittsburg, KS, retiring in 2010.

Royan attended Crestline Christian Church, First Christian Church, 4th and Pearl with her parents, then First Christian Church in Columbus. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, and was known for her large cookie and candy trays at Christmas. She also enjoyed being a 4-H mom, reading, painting, and drawing. She was a natural nurturer, confidant, and one of the best mothers ever.

Royan is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Ruth Marie Woods, and Sally Sue Wilson; three brothers-in-law: Fielding Wilson, Donald Woods, and Frank Akers who was like a brother.








Survivors include her son: Christian C. Meyer; sister: Elaine Akers; companion of 37 years: Frank Fanoele, nieces: Carla, Sheryl (Don), Kammie (David), Sara (Pat) and Charli Ann (Steven); nephew: Darren (Rucsandra); ten great, and eight great-great-nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, KS. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday, July 21, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 PM. Inurnment of cremains will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Ozark Memorial Park in Joplin, MO, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to either Cherokee County 4-H, or Columbus First Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.
