Bonnie Swanson

Bonnie Lou Swanson, age 81 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin following a brief illness. She was born March 30, 1943 in Waterloo, Iowa to the late Carl and Betty (Phelps) Jones.

For nearly 20 years Bonnie worked at La-Z-Boy in Neosho. She was a loyal Chiefs fan. In her spare time, Bonnie enjoyed watching westerns, gardening, and visiting with family. In her younger years, Bonnie was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping. She had a lifelong passion for animals. Her cats and dogs were the most important thing. She leaves behind her beloved dog, Bo.








She was a member of Park Plaza Christian Church of Joplin for many years. Bonnie spent a lot of time reading and studying the Bible. Her faith and beliefs were of high importance.

Those left to mourn her passing include a half-sister Doris Boogren of Iowa, nephews, Steve Hayes (Deb) of Joplin, Stan Hayes of Joplin, Dean Halvorson of Bristol, CT; nieces, Tamara Medved (Peter) of East Hampton, CT and Brenda Coleman (Liam) of Portland, CT; numerous great nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Other than her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by sisters, Sharon Hayes and Kathryn Halvorson, her half-brother Tony Jones, as well as a nephew, Kevin Hayes.








No visitation or viewing is planned. Graveside services are Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
