(From Bath-Naylor Funeral Home)Martin Earl Dainty, 63, of Weir, KS, passed away on December 12, 2024, in Springfield, MO.
He was born on July 17, 1961, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Robert Earl “Toby” and Mary Lorene (Masterson) Dainty.
Martin grew up in Scammon, KS and graduated from Columbus High School in 1979. During his high school years, he was a member of the football, basketball and track teams, a class officer and was involved in many other clubs and activities. Martin attended Fort Scott Community College and Pittsburg State University where he graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Therapy.
On September 4, 1982, he was united in marriage to Mindy Koons at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS. She survives him at the family home.
Martin proudly worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 26 years as a dedicated mail carrier for Columbus, KS. His commitment to serving the community through his work was deeply admired. He retired from the post office in 2020.
He was a lifetime member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and assisted with the care and management of St. Bridget’s Cemetery. He was an alter server for many years in his youth and occasionally in his adult years, he often stated that he had served for mass in every decade of his life except for his sixties.
Martin was well known for being a twin to his brother Michael. Their bond was truly indescribable, rooted in a lifetime of shared experiences.
Some of the best years of his life were spent coaching his sons and nephews in baseball alongside his brother. In 1999, he led the Cherokee Little League All Star team to victory in the Kansas State Championship. His passion extended to founding the Cherokee Legion Post 35 Baseball team, creating lasting memories and bonds within the community.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing cards, specifically 5-Point Pitch. He would often say, "I'm the best Pitch player in Cherokee County and I've got the trophy to prove it!" He indeed had the trophy to prove it.
In his 42 years of marriage to his wife Mindy, some of his favorite experiences were traveling. From hiking the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and Glacier National Park to watching Broadway musicals, cruising to Alaska, and being a spectator at the US Open Tennis Championships, they made many unforgettable memories together.
