(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Stephen L. Reed, aged 75, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1st, 2026.
Steve was born on August 27, 1950, in El Dorado, Kansas, to Floyd and Geneva Reed. He grew up with a strong sense of service, humor, and compassion—traits that would define the rest of his life.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his deep respect for others and his quiet strength.
After his military service, Steve dedicated his professional life to caring for people as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). He approached his work with skill, patience, and genuine kindness, always putting others at ease—often with a well-timed joke.
Steve was a generous, goofy, gentle soul. He was endlessly patient, unfailingly kind, and deeply devoted to his family. He had a gift for making people feel comfortable and cared for, whether through laughter, listening, or simple acts of service. Those who knew him will remember his playful spirit, steady presence, and the way he showed love through both words and actions.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Julie Reed; his children: Sarah Reed Levels and her husband Mark, and their daughter Kaitlyn; Caleb Reed and his wife Stephanie, and their children Noah, Elijah, and Adelynn; Jacob Reed and his wife Melody, and their children Davey and Astrid; and Grace Reed Chaffee and her husband Ben, and their children Elleanor and Charlie.
