(From Daniel Funeral Home)Velma Irene Horton, age 75, of Golden City, passed away Friday, February 28, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Velma was born July 18, 1950, in the State of Washington to Charles E. Baxter and Hazel Irene (Davis) Baxter. On September 26, 1970, she was united in marriage to Larry Chester Horton in Golden City, Missouri. To this union, three sons were born.
Velma devoted her life to her family as a homemaker, caring deeply for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her three sons, Larry Horton of Golden City, Cliff Horton and wife Christy of Arcola, and James Horton of Golden City; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Hailey, Destiny, Lydia, Madi, Chet, and Cutter; two great-grandchildren, Memphis and Adriaun; one brother, Carter Baxter; and two sisters, Charlene Flesher and Gene Woosley; and former daughter-in-law, Jenna Purdham.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry Horton; two granddaughters, Megan and Adriaunna; and three grandsons, Christopher, Colton, and Dalton.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Daniel Funeral Home.
A private burial will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested and may be made payable to St. Jude Children's Hospital, in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
