(From Lakin Funeral Home)William Eugene Wood "Woody", age 70, of Pierce City, MO entered eternal rest on Monday, March 2, 2026, Cox-Monett Hospital in Monett, MO. He was born in Monett, MO on Saturday, December 31, 1955; son of Robert E. and Deloris Yvonne (Shore)Wood. Woody attended Pierce City High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1974 where he served during the Vietnam War on an aircraft carrier for three years. Woody had many jobs in his lifetime, EMT/Paramedic, Little Tykes, a mortician, hotel night audit in Branson, and graphic art designer. He moved back to Pierce City in 2011, where he worked at Monett Wal-Mart.
Woody enjoyed life and being with his family and friends. He adored his nieces and nephews and the times he spent with them. He loved his son and granddaughter, Evie, who affectionately called him Papa Woody. He loved to grill, work in his greenhouse, golf, and trout fish on opening day with the guys. He also enjoyed oil painting and just hanging out with his friends. He will be missed by many!
Surviving are his mother, Yvonne Wood of Pierce City, MO; sister, Pam (Joe) Boman of Pierce City, MO; son, Dustin Wood (Addie and her daughter, Evie) of Arkansas; aunt, Freeda Winton of Pierce City, MO; uncle, Larry Roller of Monett, MO; nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Those greeting him in heaven were his Dad, Robert Wood; grandparents, John and Jessie Shore and Jeff and Lorene Wood; aunts and uncles, Bernice and Bill Heeter, Gary Winton, Lee Roy Wood, and Sue Roller; cousins; and his beloved dog, Shiloh.
The family will receive friends at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
Funeral services will be at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO on Monday, March 9, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM with Pastor Doug Gripka officiating. Burial, with full Military Honors, will follow at Pierce City Cemetery in Pierce City, MO.
Memorials may be made to the Mt. Vernon Veteran's Home in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO.
