Julie Mathews

Mrs. Julie Ann Mathews, 69, of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life suddenly on Saturday morning, March 23, 2019, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri, from complications of pneumonia.

Julie entered this life on March 18, 1950, in Nampa, Idaho, born to the union of the late Elbert and Mary (Yowell) Dille. She was raised in Nampa and was a 1968 graduate of Nampa High School. She moved her family to Lanagan, Missouri, in 1986. She was employed by the Jane Wal-Mart as a bakery associate. She also worked in various nursing homes as a caregiver. She enjoyed her coffee, crocheting, playing cards, fishing, gardening and was a devout Kansas City Chiefs fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, J.W. Mathews on July 7, 2000.

Julie is survived by her three children, Michael Janoushek of Middleton, Idaho, Jason Mathews and fiancé, Alix Edmonds, of Goodman, Missouri and James Mathews and wife, Margaret, of Anderson, Missouri; five grandchildren; two brothers, Dale Dille of Chula Vista, California and Mike Dille of St. Louis, Missouri; two sisters, Karen Roberts and Barbara Britt both of Nampa, Idaho; her best friend, Deana Tompkins and husband, Alan, of Anderson; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends. 

Funeral services for Julie will be held graveside on Friday, March 29, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Butler Creek Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas with Pastor Marilyn O’Brien officiating. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Kaleb Mathews, Mike Mathews, Jeffrey Mathews, Jay Mathews, Donnie Rose and Aaron Brice. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. LaVeda Wilson

LaVeda Blanche Wilson, age 79, of Lamar, Missouri passed away March 22, 2019, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

LaVeda was born May 19, 1939 in Shickley, Nebraska to Henry John Wessler and Laura Rosine Remona (Holtzen) Wessler. LaVeda graduated from Lamar High School in the class of 1957. On August 8, 1958, LaVeda married Fred Willis Wilson in Lamar, Missouri.

LaVeda was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting and knitting along with tending to her flower garden and hosting family gatherings, but the true joy in her life were her two grandchildren. LaVeda was also an active member of Grace Lutheran Church for over 60 years.

LaVeda is survived by two sons, Donald (Joann) Wilson, Lamar, and Kenneth Wilson, Nevada, Missouri along with a daughter, Jeannette (Dana) Eaves, Jefferson City, Missouri; one sister, Bonnie Wessler, St. Peters, Missouri and two grandchildren, Hannah Eaves, Springfield, Missouri and Samuel Wilson, Lamar.

Preceding her death were her husband Willis Wilson ; a son, Ronald Wilson; four brothers, Wilbur Wessler, Charles Wessler, Merlyn Wessler and Lee Wessler. Lee passed on March 16, 2019 ; and one sister, Ramona Wessler.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church, with burial at Lake Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday at the funeral home.

Phillip Anweiler

Phillip William Anweiler, 65, Goodman, MO passed away March 25, 2019. He was born December 18, 1953 in Tulsa, OK to Harold and Allene Theresa (Pringer) Anweiler. He lived most of his life in the Tulsa area, moving to Goodman several years ago.

 Phillip was a rigging engineer at the Port of Catoosa. He served in the US Navy from 1972 until 1976. Phillip loved to hunt, fish, and ride motorcycles. He was a member of the American Legion in Tulsa, OK and served as Sargent of Arms of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club. 

Phillip and Marian Bogart-Weis were married November 13, 1984 in Tulsa; she survives. He is also survived by two children: Chris Weis and wife, Selinda and Phillip Michael Anweiler, all of Neosho; one brother, Michael Anweiler of Skiatook, OK; one sister, Caroline Anweiler, of Tulsa, OK; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. 

Phillip’s body has been taken for cremation; no services are planned.

Anita Nivens

Anita Ellen Nivens, Neosho, MO passed away March 26, 2019 at the age of 63 years, three months, and six days. She was born December 20, 1955 in Neosho to Emery and Vivian (Carter) Wagner. 

Anita was a lifelong area resident and had worked as a line worker for Sun Beam Products. She enjoyed animals, horseback riding, and running barefoot. 

 She is survived by two children: Ellen Brown and husband, Marshall and Michelle Ethridge, all of Neosho; four brothers: Mike Wagner of Neosho, Pat Wagner of Joplin, Jim Wagner of Seneca, and Emery Wagner and wife, Shirley of Pea Ridge, AR; one sister, Lynette England of Joplin; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, and one great grandson.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 until 1:30 pm, Friday, March 29, 2019 at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO.

Graveside services will follow at 2:00 pm at King Cemetery, Neosho, with Rev. D.L. Huffman officiating. Pat Wagner, Tommy Gurley, Mike Wagner, Bob Jackson, Tanner Brown, and Bruce Amador will serve as pallbearers.

Bill Smith

William L. 'Bill' Smith, age 82, Joplin, passed away at 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2019 at Mercy Hospital.

Bill was born June 30, 1936 in Miami, Oklahoma to the late Lawrence Smith and Juanita Washington Smith and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.

Bill worked as a national bank examiner for many years. He owned and operated Smith Loan Review for several years.

Bill was a longtime member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He was a member of Gideon's International and was a veteran of the United States Army. Bill enjoyed golfing and bowling and loved spending time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Bill married Katrina Zoe Zentner on April 11, 1981 in Joplin. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include a brother, Ross Smith, Florida; two step sisters, Judy Anderson and Helen Ranz, both of Joplin; nephew, Jason Smith, Lee's Summit, Missouri; niece, Kendel Wynn, Missouri City, Missouri; unofficially adopted daughter, Joyce Turner, Joplin; and several other extended family members.

Services are planned for Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Harmony Heights Baptist Church. Rev. Charlie Burnett will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Jackie Jacobs, Eddy Wynn, Marty Zentner, Michael Hicks and Valter Dana. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Harmony Heights Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Heights Baptist Church or, to Gideon's International, both in care of Parker Mortuary.

Chuck Land

Charles (Chuck) Eugene Land Jr., Webb City, MO was born January 11, 1960 and went home to Heaven March 25, 2019.

Chuck graduated from Webb City High School in 1978 and attended Missouri Southern on a golf scholarship. He was currently employed by the Joplin School District in construction. He was involved with construction all his life. Chuck loved God, his family, and friends, golf (3 Hole in Ones), attending sporting events, playing cards, and his pets, especially White Paw. 

Chuck and Lisa Hughes Land were united in marriage September 11, 1981 and she survives of the home. Additional survivors include son Zac Land (Anna), daughters Ashley Land and Darci Land of the home, grandchildren Grayson and Teagan Land. He is also survived by his sisters, Brenda Overman and Teresa Webber, (Steve); and many additional family members as well as many great friends. 

Chuck was preceded in death by his son Tyler Land and parents Charles and Glenna Land of Webb City, MO. 

The family will be present for a visitation on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Carterville Christian Church. In honor of Chuck and at the request of his family, no flowers please, just do something kind for someone.

Ola Green

Ola Sue Green, age 72, passed away March 22, 2019, at Cox South Hospital.

She was born on November 3, 1946, and resided in Springfield, Missouri. She began working at Cox Hospital in 1977 and retired in 2014 after 37 years of service.

Surviving are her two daughters, Angela Westerman and Crystal Campbell; her son-in-law, Bart Westerman; five grandchildren, Dakota Calentine, Adrianna Westerman, Tiffany Westerman, Summer Westerman and Max Westerman; and three great-grandchildren, Meilyn Westerman, Thomas Westerman and Madilyn Westerman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2019, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Pastor Marilyn O’Brien officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Bart Westerman, Max Westerman, Tiffany Westerman and Dakota Calentine.
