Dorl W. Barnes, age 89, Joplin, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
Dorl was born December 5, 1925 in rural Racine, Missouri to the late Harvey and Opal Hymer Barnes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Johnson and a sister, Iwana Carpenter.
On October 2, 1948, he married Janice Beatty in Bentonville, Arkansas. They made their home in Joplin while Dorl served in the United States Army during World War II. Following the war, he began a career as a pipe fitter and plumber until his retirement at the age of 62. After his retirement, he worked for Charles Doolan doing custom hay bailing until the age of 87.
In addition to being a devoted husband and father, Dorl will be remembered as a loyal friend and great neighbor. Dorl enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor from his garden and his love of the outdoors, whether it was fishing; hunting or raising cattle with others.
Dorl and Janice shared their love and lives for 67 years until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; one son, Calvin Lee Barnes and his wife, Theda; four grandchildren, Angel Johnson, Webb City, Wes Johnson, Joplin, Brandon Barnes and his wife, Carrie, Chicago, Illinois, Kristen Ogle and husband, Adam, Joplin, Curtis Barnes, Joplin; six great grandchildren and many extended family members.
Dorl had a way with words. With just a few, he left a lasting impression. He will be loved and remembered always!
Memorial services are planned for Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends following the services at the mortuary.
