Mr. Jerry Max Penner, 71, of Neck City, Missouri, departed this life on Friday, October 30, 2015, at his residence, after a long illness.
Jerry entered this life on October 10, 1944, in Melrose, New Mexico, one of six children born to the union of the late A.J. and Johnny Rose (Carroll) Penner. He was raised and attended high school in Portales, New Mexico. He has resided in Neck City, Missouri, since the early 1960’s. In 1963 he was drafted into the United States Army serving his country faithfully during Vietnam. After being honorably discharged he returned home to Neck City. Throughout his life he was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid collector. He loved visiting with his friends and neighbors and was known as the “Official Greeter” of Neck City. Jerry was of the Baptist faith.
Jerry is survived by one son, William Penner of Neck City, Missouri; four sisters, Mary Summers and husband, Wayne, of Carthage, Missouri, Ann Hinkle and husband, Mike, of Neck City, Kathy Stanley and husband, Merl, of Webb City and Wanda Long and husband, Mike of Sarcoxie, Missouri; a brother, Jess Penner and wife, Judy, also of Webb City; his beloved dog and companion, Beau; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Penner are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2015, in the Chapel of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Stanley officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Webb City Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Jason Long, Aaron Summers, Brandon Penner, Paul Lewis, Andrew Stanley and Mike Summers.
