Donavon Samson Sr., age 91 of Joplin, Mo., passed away Thursday afternoon, October 22, 2015 at his residence in Joplin following an illness.
Donavon was born on July 5, 1924 in Newport, Nb., the son of Frank and Myrtle (Register) Samson. He worked twenty five years as a glass worker for the Libby-Owens-Ford Company retiring in 1978. He moved to Joplin in 2011 from Bentonville, Ar. where he was active in the Rogers Christian Church and the Bentonville Senior Center and the Joplin Senior Center.
He married Marie Ashcraft on October 12, 1945, she preceded him in death on July 27, 2014. Donavon was also preceded by his parents and three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include two sons; Donavon Samson II, Joplin, Mo., and Steven Samson and wife Julie of Granger, In., two daughters; Donna Dean and husband Dan, Swanton, Oh. and Karen Ruark of Joplin., four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel, Roger Hasselquist, will officiate. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the National Cemetery in Fayettville, Arkansas.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
