Howard Carlson, age 78 of Joplin, passed away at 2:56 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Born July 15, 1938 in Ralls County Missouri, Howard was the son of the late Hilding Joseph Carlson and Matilda Christine Mills Carlson. In 1967 Howard began attending seminary at the Illinois Baptist Institute while also working for Caterpillar, Inc. He pastored Buffalo Baptist Church in Buffalo, IA in 1972; Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Davenport, IA in 1980; Mountainview Baptist Church Scottsboro, AL in 1987 while also managing Westside Gas & Oil; and Bible Baptist Church in Columbus, MS in 1993. During his life he also worked as a lathe operator, machinist and computer troubleshooter.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his spouse, Louetta Sue Hathcock, whom he married on May 5, 1956 in Davenport, IA; his sister Mary Lou Utterback of Davenport, IA; his brothers Sam Carlson of Florida and Donald Carlson Blue Eye, MO; his children, Vicky Stacy and husband Ryan of Muscatine, IA, Rebbecca Whitehead and husband Michael of Inola, OK, Lucinda Wilson and husband William of Joplin, Melinda Johnson and husband Bryan of Winchester, TN, Beth Hair and husband Michael of Joplin, Andrew Carlson and wife Bridget of Davenport, IA; and nineteen grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Parker Mortuary with Pastor Mikal Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. Friday until services at the mortuary. Interment will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, MO.
