Joe Shiverdecker

Joe Lee Shiverdecker, 89 of Joplin, Missouri, formerly of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away October 8, 2015. 

He passed away at Joplin Health and Rehab where he had been a resident since 2008. He was born September 2, 1926 in Fulton, Missouri to Walter and Lila Shiverdecker. Joe served as a sergeant in the United States Army until his honorable discharge on June 30, 1946. 

He married Dixie (Foster) Shiverdecker on Dec 13, 1946. They were married for 56 years before her death on January 6, 2003. He was employed by KOAM radio, in Pittsburg, Kansas. He served as general manager before retiring. Joe was baptized into Christ at the Pittsburg Church of Christ in 1980. Survivors include, two sons, Ronnie Shiverdecker of Cherokee KS. and Mark Shiverdecker (wife Connie) of Neodesha, KS. One daughter, Barbara Williamson (husband Barry) of Joplin, MO. Four grandchildren, Gabe Shiverdecker, Mandy Fancher, Erica Huguenin and Megan White and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Frank Shiverdecker and two sisters, Dorothy Carpenter and Betty Poe. The family would like to thank the staff of Joplin Health and Rehab, especially those serving in the 300 hall, for their outstanding care of Joe while showing him great respect and dignity. 

Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (October 13) at Highland Park Cemetery 2025 South Broadway, Pittsburg, KS. In lieu of flowers family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association Southwest MO. Chapter. These may be left at the service or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
