Jimmie Wasson

Mr. Jimmie Ray Wasson, 71, of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life into Glory on Thursday afternoon, October 22, 2015, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri, with his loving family by his side.

Jimmie began his earthly journey on November 8, 1943, in Anderson, Missouri, one of nine children born to the late Carl and Jennie (Wood) Wasson. He was a lifelong resident of Anderson, Missouri and a 1962 graduate of Anderson High School. In May of 1962, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving his country faithfully during Vietnam. After being honorably discharged in July of 1966, he returned home to Anderson and on November 8, 1966, he was united in marriage to Marcella Butler. They were blessed with two ornery boys and one beautiful daughter. He retired from the McDonald County School District where he was a custodian for twenty years at Anderson Elementary. After retiring he worked an additional five years as janitor at the McDonald County Courthouse. He was currently the “Master Chef” Poppy’s Daylight Donut’s located on Main Street in downtown Anderson. Jimmie was an active member of New Life Church in Anderson and was always involved in numerous community activities. For over thirty years he mowed and maintained the New Bethel Cemetery in Anderson. He enjoyed fishing, skeet shooting and was a loyal fan of both the Royals and the Chiefs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Charles Wasson; and three sisters, Freida Wasson, Dorothy Thompson and Mary Ray.

Jimmie is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Marcella Wasson of the home; three children, Stephen Ray Wasson and wife, Angela, of Raymore, Missouri, Gary Alan Wasson and wife, Erica, of Anderson and Jessica Leann Pratt and husband, Marcus, also of Anderson; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Keaton, Raegon, Maggie, Lane, Ellysia and Chance; a brother, George Wasson and wife Sandra, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; two sisters, Mabel Teague of Carthage, Missouri and Hazel Drake and husband, Ivan, of Anderson, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Wasson are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Bro. Tom Ellis officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery in Anderson. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Andrew Wasson, Keaton Wasson, Jimmy Thacker, Jess Goff, Nick Martin and Blake Martin. Aaron Thacker, Taylor Thacker, Kurtis Fuller, Kevin Fuller, Bill Martin and Jody Bond will be serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to the Anderson Betterment Club and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
